How To Help

How can you help the Kogi?   

They want you to listen to their message but they also want to be left alone in their mountain landscape. So visiting them is not appropriate.

The best way to help get the Kogi message to the world is via a donation to the Tairona Heritage Trust.

You can donate here. 

This will help them to speak to all of us through our website and social media..  It will also help pay for the Kogi to travel further afield to spread their message outside the Sierra and to take part in special events or visit special sites.  


 

The Kogi have determinedly preserved their way of life because they truly believe that this is necessary for the survival of life on earth.

The community has at its core the obligation to support the Mamas, who are much more than its leaders and guides.  They believe that the material world is the physical trace of a thought-world sustained in “aluna”.  Aluna is not just a spirit-world but the thinking and active life-force. The role of the Mamas is to mediate between the physical world and “aluna”, trying to ensure that dangerous and destructive forces are held in check.

Losing their culture is not an option if life is to go on.  And thanks to that belief, the Kogi have preserved a world of ideas that was once shared by all humanity, but which has now been all but lost.

In the beginning there were no animals, no plants.  Only the Sea.  The sea was the Mother. The Mother was not the people, she was not anything at all.  She was when she was, spirit.  She was memory and possibly, she was aluna.

The Kogi message is important for us all. They consider themselves to be the guardians of the earth and are worried by our attempts to destroy it. They want their voice and knowledge to be heard around the world and for us to take action to protect the planet that we all share.
